Ikechukwu, in a press statement made available to newsmen on Friday, also commiserated with the management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), over the demise of one of her officers, Deputy Superintendent, Andrew Akpeokhai, of the government warehouse, Ikorodu port, Lagos. According to Ikechukwu, the CAC’s certificate has put to rest the crisis rocking the association, saying only Taiwo Afolabi led BoT is known to the law of the federal republic of Nigeria as an authentic advisory body of the association. He, however, enjoined the aggrieved members of the association to seek an option of peace, and as well support the present National Executive Committee (NECOM), for the development of the sector. He said, “I, hereby, congratulate the authentic Board of Trustee members of our great Association on their successful registration. Also on behalf of my chapter, executives and the entire members, I say congratulations to the board members that includes, Dr Taiwo Afolabi; Prince Ozo Chukwura; Chief Kingsley Offor; Alhaji Shamsideen Awoteju. Others are, Igbaroola Eniola John; Obi Azodo; Alhaji isa Aliyu; Abel Timothy Ayokunle and Chief Igwe Christian Odinaka. “We are solidly behind you. Wishing you success throughout your tenure,” Ikechukwu said while assuring the board members of support. However, Ikechukwu, commiserated with the Comptroller General of the Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), over the death of his officer. He said, “I commiserate with customs CG Ali and also with the OC government warehouse, Ikorodu, Assistant Controller Wiliams Opkabi who has been like a father to both his officers and also to all resident Customs agents with his way of relating to us like father. I also pray for the repose of the soul of the officer who died in active service to the country. I also pray to pray to the almighty God to give the deceased family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.” Ikechukwu, while commending the OC, Operation of the Ikorodu government warehouse, SC Bolaji Ibidamitan for his steadfastness at the command, however, advised the service to ensure regular health check on their personnel in other to forestall sudden death. “I also advice the Nigeria Customs Service to mandate officers to always check on their health status to enable them resist sudden illness that can lead to death.” © 2022, maritimemag.
