HeadlinesMaritime Security & Law LASWA donates 400 life jackets to passengers, students, others By maritimemag May 7, 2021 ShareTweet 0 Segun Oladipupo The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has said it donated Four Hundred (400) pieces of life jackets of various sizes to ferry passengers, school children and Boat Operators on Thursday in Lagos. The exercise, according to a statement made available to nigeriamaritine360, is in continuation of the agency’s safety and awareness campaign program. The state agency said the donations took place at at Ebute-Ero, Sabokoji, Liverpool, Temidire, and Coconut jetties in CMS and Apapa areas of Lagos State. The General Manager of LASWA, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel in a statement said that this is a part of government’s effort to ensure adequate safety of all waterways users, especially during the rainy season. He noted that since Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s assumption of office as governor of Lagos State, there have been reduced cases of boat mishaps on the waterways. ” This success story is due to the massive investment the current administration puts into the waterways sub-sector, especially in safety improvement and awareness. The LASWA General Manager also warned boat Operators to always drive with caution and ensure all passengers adequately put on their life jackets before boarding while also checking out for the weather conditions before sailing during this rainy season.
