CoverHeadlinesKudos & KnocksKudos or Knocks Kudos: Well-done, Shippers’ Council By maritimemag February 29, 2020 ShareTweet 0 Nigeriamaritime360.com applauds the management of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for its initiative to bring maritime stakeholders and office of the Deputy Senate President together to resolve the issue of charitable cargo clearance. This is one step that has lingered for too long. While some Nigerians usually take advantage of the window to clear goods for commercial purpose, some other items truly meant for charity are also usually held up in the port for a long time. This initiative will no doubt usher in standard operating procedure that will differentiate what is charitable goods and commercial items. However, Nigerian factor should not play out if the scheme is to be successful and if the purpose of the gathering is not to be defeated. The committee should be given a free hand to carry out their activities without any interference. This is a good move in a good direction. But it beats one why the Minister of Transportation and the Deputy Senate President did not deem the event worthy of their presence. © 2020, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
