CoverHeadlinesKudos & KnocksKudos or Knocks KUDOS: Applause for NPA over suspension of demurrage payment By maritimemag April 12, 2020 ShareTweet 2 Thumbs up for the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for agreeing to clear the demurrage cost of cargoes in the port on behalf of importers in the face of covid 19 pandemic. This is a good initiative that will go a long way to halt any possible increase in the market prices of goods. If such interventions have been going on in the past, importers and their agents would have no shadow to hide in the name of outrageous cost of clearing goods in the port. NPA shows that it has the milk of human feeling and working hard to buy the economy from collapsing. What a proactive measure that will go a long way in Nigeria’s economy. This is another feather to Hadiza’s cap as the Managing Director of the apex maritime agency. However, Hadiza should not forget that hiding the content of port concession from public glare and secret renewal of port concession agreement is not going down well with Nigerians. What exactly are the contents of the agreement that the Authority is hiding from people? NPA is a public property the A-Z knowledge of which members of the public are entitled to without any hindrance. © 2020, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
