HeadlinesNews CILT to lobby presidency for passage of bill By maritimemag November 3, 2018 ShareTweet 0 Tayo Oladipupo The newly elected President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, Jibril Ibrahim has promised to work towards ensuring the passage of the CILT Nigeria Bill. He said this after emerging as the president of the institute for second term unopposed in Lagos. Recall that the CILT bill which is with the Presidency, is awaiting presidential assent to become law. Jibril told journalists shortly after his emergence that the passage of the CILT Nigeria bill would herald a new regime for the nation’s logistics and transport sector. In his words, “In this second term, we are going out strongly to get the CILT bill signed into law. What we intend to achieve with that bill is to ensure that Nigeria has quality logistics and transport practice in the country. It would ensure that operators maintain the highest standards in the profession and the nation’s economy would benefit maximally from the industry. “Hopefully, Mr. President would see it as worthy of regulating and instilling discipline in the logistics and transport industry and he would append his signature”, Jibril said. Taking stock of his first term in office, Ibrahim quipped, “When this administration came onboard, we said we wanted to make CILT Nigeria more visible and we have done that. We have been recognized more by government and included in several Presidential and Ministerial committees. “We have been part of the committee that reviewed the National Transport Policy and we are also part on the committee developing the Lagos State Transport Policy. “We have also been involved in the licensing regimes by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) and Road Directorate Services. We are on boards of many institutions like the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Centre for Logistics and Transport, among others. We have a lot in terms of education, professional training and some of the newly inducted members are grandaunts from our training programmes”, he said. The results from the elections are; National President, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril (FCILT) returned unopposed; Deputy National President, Dr. Alban Igwe (FCILT) returned unopposed; Vice President (West) Mrs. Margret Ogbonna (FCILT) returned unopposed; Vice President (North) Jemerin Femi (FCILT) garnered 67 votes to win the seat, Ibikunle Gbadamosi (FCILT) got 54 votes; Vice President (East) Mr Omoharigho Anthony (FCILT); Maritime Mode Rep- Ebahe Enakpona (FCILT); Female Rep- Hajia Dino Kotun (FCILT). Others are; Railway Rep- Edeeyinwo Obimisede (FCILT); Road Mode Rep- Filibus Billy Edwin (FCILT), Logistics mode Rep- Mr. Oluwole won with 88 votes to defeat Dickson 26 votes; Pipeline Mode- Ayuk Bisong and Aviation mode- Othman Yarima (FCILT). © 2018, maritimemag.
