Customs command rakes in N87 billion in 9 months

The PTML command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it generated over eighty-seven billion naira in amidst challenges within nine months.

This was contained in a statement made by the Public Relations Officer if the command, Yakubu in Lagos, yesterday.

According to the statement, the command generated the sum of N87,492,824,445.00 (Eighty seven billion, four hundred and ninety two million, eight hundred and twenty four thousand, four hundred and forty five naira) in revenue between January and September, 2018.

Meanwhile, in the corresponding period under review in 2017, the command made N67,639,928,130.00 amounting to 29.3 percent increase to last year’s revenue.

This however shows an impressive difference of N19,852,896,315.00 respectively.

The command said it generated the sum of N10,261,525,885.00 in the month of September this year 2018, and in the same period of 2017, it raked in N8,083,817,344.00 and 2016 N5,712,285,207.00 came in as revenue earnings.

The statement further highlights the uncompromising driving force of the Command’s officers’ commitment in carrying out their statutory roles in ensuring quick cargo clearance process in the port.

The PRO said that, the Customs Area Controller in recent times has instituted several strategies in terms of close contacts with Stakeholders in building a strong relationship in order to experience high level of compliance to prevent loopholes, false declaration and short-change of government in duty payments.

He emphasized that Comptroller Dixon Florence, the Command Area Controller, urged critical stakeholders to adhere to the Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali’s policy on maximum revenue collection.

The PTML Controller warned against false declaration, saying it would not be business as usual with fraudulent importers.
