The Tincan chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Tuesday inaugurated a 10-member help desk in the chapter that will help members of the association at the chapter facilitate their clearing jobs.

The chairman of the chapter, Chief Azubuike Ekweozor quipped that the initiative is necessary and in tune with freight forwarding professionalism and efficiency in the port.

Mr. Lucky Oboh was chosen as the Coordinator of the team which has representatives across all the ports, terminals and bonded warehouses under the Tincan command.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the team at the maiden general meeting of the year, Chief Ekweozor told journalists on that the chapter decided to use the name help desk because task force has been synonymous with confrontation in the maritime environment.

Ekweozor maintained that the initiative is one of the many few reforms that the executives of the chapter have put in place to ensure professionalism.

His words, “It used to be called taskforce but we felt that name is meant for motor park operators and NAGAFF is all about professionalism.

“Our house is small but we know with the help desk management team ,will help us spread our family to where we are not visible under Tin Can Island Port.

He noted that Tin Can Island port has over seventeen terminals and bonded terminals under it and there was need for the association to be on ground in all the existing facilities, in order to reach out and connect effectively.

Ekweozor said the meeting held was also an avenue to deliberate on how to provide necessary welfare package for members.

Also speaking, the Secretary of the chapter Godfrey Emeka Nwosu charged the members of the help desk to be efficient and to represent the yearnings of the members at their various locations.

He added that the attention of the executives may not necessarily be involved in some issues which the help desk can resolve and proffer final solutions.

He said, “They are to intervene and look at issues affecting NAGAFF members in port operations under Tin Can port because we are professionals and to some level we demand respect from agencies of government.”
