HeadlinesNews UNILAG debunks claims of quarantined airline crew members in the university By maritimemag April 15, 2020 ShareTweet 0 Chinazor Megbolu In a bid to maintain its integrity, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has debunked the claim that an airline crew member who flew in some Chinese doctors to Nigeria were quarantined in the University. The management of the University said the visiting Chinese nationals who came to lend medical aid last week were not quarantined in the university campus. The management stated this on Tuesday by adding that the claim as reported in newspapers was false and imagination of the author. In a statement by the UNILAG Spokesperson, Mrs. Taiwo Oloyede, the university authority said that UNILAG has no isolation centre on its campus and therefore nothing would warrant anybody bringing in any airline crew member nor any other person suspected for Covid-19 to be quarantined on the campus. According to her, “So, the report that the flight crew members were brought to UNILAG’s Scholars Hostel for quarantine or for any other purpose is totally a piece of fake news and should be disregarded in its entirety by the public”. Oloyede, through the statement made available to newsmen, advised members of the university community and the general public to beware of fake news that is flying around during the lockdown period. She charged all citizenry in the country to continue to observe precautionary measures to prevent further spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria so that things would return to normal globally.
