In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Niger/Kogi Command, Mr. Lomba Benjamin, said the smugglers attacked and killed Custom officers while on duty along Lokoja road. The statement explained further that armed bandits attacked and killed two Customs Officers on duty. Lomba also stressed that a team of patrol officers were on official duty when armed bandits attacked them along Lokoja-Okene road. According to the statement; “During the violent attack, two Officers identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs 1, S. Ohiremen and Assistant Superintendent of Customs 11, S.M Omale died”. “Another Officer, identified as DSC H I Oladapo sustained gunshot injury. “The Command is maintaining close contact with families of the victims. “We are pained by this sad development. “We share in the grief of losing fellow officers, brothers, colleagues, husbands and fathers. “We will continue to work in collaboration with our sister agencies in carrying out our statutory responsibilities” the statement concluded. © 2019, maritimemag.
