SENATOR MAMORA NOW NIWA BOSS

Senator Olorunnibe Mamora has been appointed as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment which is said to be strategic against the background of the running battle over the control of the Lagos waterways and coastlines between NIWA and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

The appointment takes immediate effect.

Mamora is also expected to drive the ongoing inland water ways reforms aimed at attracting private sector investors and deepening water transportation patronage as a critical mode of transportation in the multi-modal transport system.

NIWA is a parastatal under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, headed by Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi as Minister.

Mamora succeeds Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, who was elevated to the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) after holding forth briefly as the substantive Managing Director of NIWA.

But Mamora will be taking over from the Acting Managing Director, Barr. Danladi Ibrahim.

Mamora was born on 16 February 1953. He obtained a B.Sc, Health Sciences, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) University of Ife, Ile-Ife and became a Health Practitioner.

 

He was Medical Director of a Medical Centre (1987–1998), and a Company Medical Adviser (1988 – 1992).

Mamora was a National Delegate for the National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1990, and Secretary, Lagos East of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) in 1998.

He was elected to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 1999 and was appointed Speaker. He was Chairman of the Conference of Speakers (2000 – 2001).

Mamora was elected to the Senate in April 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He was also a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament (2003 – 2006).In 2003 he was appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

After resuming his seat in the Senate in 2007 he was appointed into committees on Upstream Petroleum Resources, Selection Committee, Health and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.
