The. Nigeria’s  Senate has on Tuesday, said it will consider a report on the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) on Thursday.

The report, which it received, was laid before the Senate after the Chairman, Joint Committee on Petroleum (upstream and downstream) and Gas Resources, Mr. Sabo Mohammed moved a motion.
The Senate President, Mallam Ahmad Lawan had asked that every Senator be provided with a copy of the document ahead of its consideration on Thursday, July 1, 2021.
Recall the PIB was considered  during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo, but successive sessions of the national assembly failed to pass the legislation as a result of complexities of the oil industry and divergent interests.
However, the present assembly took a decision to pass the bill prior to it’s consideration on Thursday.
Lawan had recently said that both chambers of the national assembly are putting finishing touches to the bill.
“As I speak, our joint committee of both Senate and the House on the PIB are about to conclude writing the report, which will be submitted to both chambers of the National Assembly.
“Our expectation is that we will pass the PIB within this month of June by the grace of God,” Lawan said.
