Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu, Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Seme command said this yesterday at the launching of operation ‘Flush Out Touts’ from the command. The land location of which was not disclosed, was said to have been encroached upon over the years by individuals without due approval. According to the statement made available to nigeriamaritime360.com, the command in synergy with other security agencies have resolved to flush out touts nicknamed ‘Kelegbes’ in the environs. The kelegbe boys are said to impersonate customs officers at the border post deceiving travellers along the Lagos/Abidjan road and extorting money from them. The new manhunt for the marauders was launched on the 31st of May, 2018 at the border post. In the statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Taupyen Selchang, “CAC regretted how the Service land was overtaken by illegal occupants. He noted that the land which was Gazetted since 1978 by the Land Act decree of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be allowed to be treated with reckless abandon. He warned all trespassers to keep off or lose whatever resources they expended on the Land. In a related development, Comptroller Mohammed, disclosed that he is determined to ensure that miscreants and touts called “Kelegbes” who infiltrate the border and all the security agencies to perpetrate trans border crimes are flushed out. The Customs helmsman who used the occasion to sensitise the community on the tenets of customs operations, called on them not to patronise touts or customs officers without uniform or tags. He also charged anyone with genuine business intention stuck in the process to approach the Servicom or Public Relations Unit of the service at the command. © 2018, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
