The election which is slated for Asaba in Delta state on Friday, will see exchange of baton between the outgoing president, Engr. Matthew Alalade who held sway for two terms of eight years. The election is expected to hold on Friday in Asaba, Delta state, South-South Nigeria. The National Delegate Conference is to bring together all four zones that make up the union to elect new leadership. The zones include: Shipping, Fishing, NIWA and Offshore. Engineer Matthew Alalade whose tenure ends Friday(today) said on Thursday that the elections have been conducted in all the zones and the grand finale which will usher in new executives comes up on Friday. He said, “This is grand finale of the national body of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association in Delta State. “We are going to have a peaceful exercise as my tenure is about to end and a new leader is about to emerge in piloting the affairs of the union.” As part of the activities lined up for the conference include paper presentation with the topic: The Challenges Of Stress and Fatigue To Seafarers. Speaking on his achievements, Alalade said the union witnessed a major transformation during his tenure as well as increased membership.
