Barely 24 hours after his inauguration as the new executive governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo Olu yesterday  visited Apapa port for the on the spot assessment of the state of the road.

Even though he did not alight from his vehicle, the governor was sighted by our correspondent with a combined team of LASTMA, Police and Military personnel in his entourage at 4.45pm local time.

The governor visited the access roads linking Tin Can Island Ports and Lagos Port Complex respectively .

Excited port users expressed happiness to see the governor coming down to the port to have a glimpse of state of the road on his first day in office.

Speaking with our correspondent, Sebastine Chinedu, a freight forwarder said it was a good development to see a governor who was sworn in barely 24 hours ago to come down to the port.

He added, “the governor’s first impression means that he is ready to work.

“If this man can act like this, it means something good is about to happen,

Recall that  Sanwo-Olu,  had vowed to  end the protracted gridlock in Apapa area of the state within the first 60 days in office.

Sanwo-Olu said this while responding to questions on how to end the perennial gridlock along the port access roads in Apapa , during an interactive session with his classmates at the Executive Master of Business Administration class, University of Lagos, 1998/2000 set.

He said, “The Apapa trailer issue; it’s a campaign issue; it’s very serious; I’m going to take it very seriously.

“I believe that it is something that we are going to solve in the first 60 days of our government. Whatever is going to be required of us, we will take them out.

“There is a lot of politics being played around there. But no, it cannot be the way we’ll continue to live. We cannot continue to give excuses.”
