Police arrest man for drugs possession

A 37-year-old man, Rabiu Suleiman, has been arrested by the police for allegedly being in possession of 25 kilograms of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He was also found to be in possession of 1,400 pieces of Exol-5 psychotropic drugs.

The Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the development to Northern City News, said the suspect had confessed to committing the crime.

Isah said “On December 15, 2018, around 11.30am, based on a tip-off, the command succeeded in arresting one Rabi’u Suleiman of Angwan Waziri, Gangara village, Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, in possession of 25kg of dried leaves, reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp, and 1,400 pieces of Exol-5 psychotropic drugs.

“The suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.  Investigation is ongoing.”

Meanwhile, four members of a suspected armed robbery gang have been remanded in the Katsina Prison till January 15, 2019, when their case will come up for mention.

The suspects are Ibrahim Abubakar (20); Abdulkarim Abdu (45); Bishir Muazu (27); and Muntari Yusuf (20), all of Dan Maiyaki village in the Dandume Local Government Area of the state.

They, along with five others who are at large, were charged with criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, contrary to sections 6B and 1(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, R11.LFN, 2004.

Those at large are Kadi Auta, More Auta, Lalbi Bamshe, Sahabi Shal and Kabir Babaiye.

The police told the court on Thursday that the suspects were suspected to be members of the gang that recently invaded the house of one Suleiman Yunusa at Dan Maiyaki with guns, machetes and sticks.

They allegedly attacked and robbed the victim of valuables, including a brand new motorcycle valued at N150,000.

The gang also allegedly broke into Yunusa’s provision shop and reportedly made away with various items.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, said investigation was still in progress on the case.

He sought an adjournment and the presiding senior magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, fixed January 11, 2019, for the case to be mentioned.

She also directed that the four members of the gang should be kept in prison custody till the adjourned date.
