The Chattered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) has said that it is already working with various committees set up by the Federal Government to ensure that petroleum products are evacuated from Apapa tank farms with the use of pipelines.

Speaking at an industry event recently, President of CILT, Dr Ibrahim Jibril said that Multi-modalism is the solution to many of the challenges bedevilling operations around Apapa ports.

He explained that the pipelines would be laid underneath the streams, right hand corners. He said that as soon as products get to far areas outskirt of Lagos, they would now be lifted by trucks from there to various destinations.

Jubril who is the Director, Administration and Personnel Service of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) noted that the problem of tank farms in Apapa is the main cause of truck congestion in Apapa area.

He said “Currently, CILT Nigeria is in many ministerial and Presidential committees where we give advice to government in various modes of transportation. Multi modalism is the solution to many of our challenges, if we can get multimodalism right, then we would move into inter-modalism.

“We are now looking at the area of pipelines on the streams right hand corners on the bottom, we are now looking at the possibility of even employing the pipeline mode in order to evacuate petroleum products from Apapa to far areas outskirt of Lagos so that they can be lifted by trucks from there, that proposal CILT has given to the Federal Government.

“Professionalization is the only thing that can see us out of the challenges we experience in the country today” he said.
