CoverHeadlinesMaritime Security One dead, 19 rescued as boat capsizes in Ojo By maritimemag December 10, 2019 ShareTweet 0 Segun Oladipupo | Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said that one person has been confirmed dead while 19 others were rescued in a boat accident in Lagos on Monday The General Manager of LASWA, Damilola Emmanuel who signed the release containing the information, said the boat was going to Ebute-Ojo from Liverpool Jetty around 7:30 pm According to him, one person who was in critical condition when rushed to the hospital later died. He, however, stated that the captain of the boat has been arrested by the police and currently undergoing investigation with LASWA and other relevant security agencies. He said, “At about 7.30 pm on the 9th of December 2019, a 20-capacity passenger boat with 20 passengers on board from Liverpool jetty going to Ebute-Ojo terminal capsized due to strong wave of the water. “The Local community members rescued 19 passengers alive with 1 passenger in critical condition who was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead while the other 19 passengers were handed over to their families. “Marine Police have since arrested the Captain of the boat and ongoing investigations is being carried out by LASWA and other relevant Emergency Agencies.” © 2019, maritimemag.
