News Ogun Customs Intercepts 442 Vehicles, Generates N6.1billion in 12 Months By maritimemag April 19, 2018 ShareTweet 0 In line with the strict implementation of the land border vehicle ban of the Federal Government, the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said it intercepted about 442 smuggled vehicles in 12 months. This was even as the command generated N6.1 billion into the federal government coffers between January and December, 2017. The immediate past Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Sani Madugu discsed this, at the handing over to the newly appointed CAC, Comptroller Michael Agbara. Madugu who was recently deployed to the Customs headquarters as Acting Assistant Controller General (ACG) in charge of Enforcement, said the command also intercepted 104 motor cycles, 21, 789 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 15, 825 cartons of frozen poultry products, 1,935 kegs of vegetable oil and canabis among other contrabands. The newly appointed Controller also promised hard times for smugglers as he fully assumed duty at the command. At a brief handing over ceremony held at the command, Idiroko, outgoing Comptroller of the command, Comptroller Madugu who was recently deployed to the Customs headquarters as Acting Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) in charge of Enforcement, said the command within the review period also recorded 810 various seizures valued at N1.5 billion. His words, “from January to date this year, we have generated N1.4 billion and 110 seizures with a Duty Paid Value of N737 million. We have seized 118 vehicles both tokunbo and means of conveyance, 16 motorcyles and 5, 512 bags of foreign rice among others.” Comptroller Madugu who described the new Comptroller as a vibrant officer, appealed to the media to extend the same support given to him to the new comptroller to enable him succeed. He said, “From today, you will be hearing Agbara not Madugu. He would continue with the anti smuggling war. He is well grounded and conversant with the terrain and he knows what to do and I pray there will be improvement within the period he will serve here. Please give the same cooperation you have given us to Mr Agbara.” Comptroller Agbara, commended Comptroller Madugu for the giant strides recorded by the command, promising to consolidate on his achievements. He solicited the cooperation of the media to enable him excel at the command.
