CoverNews Nigerian Navy seeks ties with tertiary institutions for teaching of Hydrography By maritimemag June 22, 2018 ShareTweet 0 Tayo Oladipupo | The Nigerian Navy has said it is collaborating with tertiary institutions and relevant stakeholders in Nigeria for commencement of relevant hydrographic courses. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ette Ibas said this at a function in Lagos, recently. The Chief of Naval Staff who was represented at the function by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command, Sylvanus Abbah said that the efforts were intended to deliver total hydrographic package to Mariners in the next few years in order to facilitate safety of navigation and improved maritime activities in Nigeria. He quipped that the activities would lead to improvement on the national economy and wellbeing of Nigerians. He stressed that production of charts lies solely with the Nigerian Navy hence, it has taken giant steps towards providing improved service delivery to Mariners operating within Nigerian waters in the last one year. Ibas added that the Navy had developed the required competence for the production of training charts for use in any Maritime institution across the nation. “At present, four of such charts covering areas of Nigerian coast from Lagos to Calabar have been produced and are available at the NNHO,” he said. © 2018, maritimemag.
