Bob Joseph Yousou for his numerous achievements since becoming the president of the union in 2020.Yousou was lauded on the occasion of his birthday celebrated for him by the members of the union in Lagos on Monday. Those that spoke during his birthday celebration at the head office of the union, maintained that the president had brought new innovations and set new records in the organisation.Among the speakers was the Secretary General of the union, Comrade John Aleakhue Okpono who recounted some of the achievements of High Chief Yousou since inception of his tenure.The Secretary General,who said that Yousou operated an open door policy, said that the strategy engenders transparency and accountability. The union scribe promised that the Secretariat staff would continue to support his government to do more for the members Describing Yousou as a project man, he stated that his achievements speak for themselves even as he wished him more wisdom to achieve more in his term in office.His words, “We come against setback under your watch, we thank you and we appreciate your open door policy for us all.“As we celebrate you today, celebration will not cease from our homes and families in Jesus Name.”Also speaking, Chairman, Shipping Zonal Council, Captain Saliu Adetayo, in his comment, celebrated the National President for his exemplary leadership quality and styleHe expressed satisfaction with the performance of the president within the period he has been in the office.The Shipping Zonal Council boss noted that the Association had what it takes to be front runner among the unions in the Trade Union Congress (TUC).The Offshore Zonal Council Chairman, Captain Cyril Nzekwe while appreciating Yousou for the successes recorded by the union so far, prayed for divine protection and more successes for the union and members. He assured the leader of the zone’s support for greater heights for the union.In his response, emotional Yousou stated that he seldom celebrate his birthday because of his profession, but that the members of the union decided to celebrate this year’s birthday for him saying he really appreciated the gesture. He added that since he came into office, he had achieved most of the agenda he set for himself,adding that it is only the TUC level that he is yet to achieve even as he promised to accomplish that before his tenure elapsed. He boasted that the achievements seen so far were tips of the iceberg even as he promised to do more He said, “U do celebrate my birthdays at sea and even while there, I don’t usually cut cakes like this. So, this is symbolic to me.“The progress recorded so far is just a tip of the iceberg .”He pledged to improve on the welfare of the members of the union saying that is in top of his agenda henceforth. © 2022, maritimemag.
