News Marine Customs intercepts smuggled items worth N26.9 in Q1 By maritimemag April 24, 2018 ShareTweet 0 The Western Marine Command of Nigeria Customs said that it had made various seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N 26,928,550.59 in the first three months of 2018. The Public Relations Officer of the amphibian arm of customs, Emmanuel Tangwa, in a statement, said that, effective measures have been put in place to reduce smuggling across the nation’s waterways. Tangwa disclosed that, the command’s Area Comptroller, Mohammed Sarkin Kebbi, has reinvigorated its 24 hour water patrols across the creeks in the south west down to Kebbi State The statement added that, the CAC said the command would not compromise on its mandate or allow smugglers under any guise to use the waters for their unlawful ventures. A breakdown of the seizures shows 195 bales of used clothing worth N16,380,000.00; 705 units of 20 litters premium motor spirit popularly called petrol worth N2,044,500.00; 170 kegs of vegetable oil and sugar valued at N2,363,946.00 and 100 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice worth N1,237,469.01 Other seizures recorded according to the statement included another 170 bags of foreign parboiled rice worth N2,103,697.38; frozen poultry products valued at N324,000.00 and another 200 bags of rice worth N2,474,938.2 © 2018, maritimemag.
