By maritimemag August 5, 2020 ShareTweet 0 Segun Oladipupo | The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has reiterated its commitment to continually ensure the safety of ferry passengers in the state.This is contained in a statement released by Nkechi Ajayi, LASWA Public Relations Officer on Tuesday.Ajayi said that LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel dropped the hint in a chat with newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.Emmanuel spoke on the backdrop of Tuesday”s arrest of erring Boat Operators during the Enforcement and Monitoring exercise across the inland waterways.During the enforcement and monitoring exercise, the Patrol team of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) seized a total number of six (6) Boat engines belonging to commercial Ferry Operators that were caught flouting safety regulations on the waterways which include; not wearing of Life Jackets, Overloading, Reckless Driving among other offences which could have resulted in preventable fatalities when accidents occur.According to the LASWA GM, areas covered during the safety compliance Operations were Mile 2, Kirikiri, Abule Osun Jetty, Alex Jetty, Liverpool, Ebute Ojo all in the Ojo Axis of Lagos.Mr Emmanuel reassured that the Authority would no longer condone any action that went against the safety standards of the State inland waterways.He concluded that any erring operators will be sanctioned appropriately. © 2020, maritimemag.
