His attackers were apprehended and detained at the Area “B” police station, while Oyeshina was immediately referred to LUTH from Randle Hospital, Surulere. Unfortunately, he died Saturday morning. LASTMA General Manager Olajide Oduyoye has condemned the attack, saying it is “unfortunate that the agency lost the young promising officer” in the course of carrying out the function of traffic management entrusted to him by law. For the avoidance of doubt about the functions of LASTMA, Oduyoye said “LASTMA was established to manage and control traffic in order to reduce the people’s travel time on our roads, increase economic growth through increased productivity and ensure the populace safety and security. Where road users turn against any government official is unacceptable and would not be condoned henceforth”. Oduyoye also revealed that the inauguration of a committee on war against traffic and environmental offenders, will help to protect LASTMA’s work and ensure that road users adhere to traffic laws through enforcement. © 2019, maritimemag.
