Lagos International Maritime Week opens today

The third edition of the annual International Maritime Week opens today at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

The three- day event with the theme “Developing Maritime Infrastructure in Africa” holds from May 15- 17, 2018.

According to the convener, Mrs. Oritsematosan Edodo Emore, the Chairman of Zoe Maritime, the maritime week is meant to bring together stakeholders all over the world in the industry to
network and explore opportunities for growth.
The maritime week provides a platform to showcase new developments and products, to put Lagos on the global map of maritime events worldwide and to continue the promotion of Nigeria as the preferred destination for maritime investments in Africa.

The event would also provide an invaluable platform for organisations to expand their market share in the maritime industry not only in Nigeria but in the West and Central African sub-regions, as regional stakeholders will also be participating in the week-long  event.
Events lined up for the 2018 maritime week include: public lecture(15th May ); 3rd international business- to- business conference and exhibition(15th-16th May) which comprises of roundtables on subjects such as maritime transportation ,maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea, maritime law and arbitration, port development, marine environment, maritime training and education and women in maritime, excursion (17th May ), mentoring and introduction of the maritime industry to the youths(17th May).
Also planned for the epoch event are various exhibition booths during the 3rd international maritime business- to – business conference and exhibition whereby stakeholders will be invited to showcase their brand products and services, after which a gala night would round up the event on the 17th of May, 2018.
The2018 Lagos International Maritime Week is third in the series, making its debut in 2016.

It is being organized by its main principal Zoe Maritime with support from stakeholders across the maritime industry in Nigeria.

Over the years of its hosting, the event has succeeded in attracting prominent sponsors including the Nigeria Maritime Administration and safety Administration (NIMASA), the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA,) Maersk Line, and other notable brands in the sector.
It is expected that this year’s event will attract a wider audience and participants as well as established and prominent sponsors both in the maritime sector as well as in the oil and gas.
Notable personalities expected to speak during the three-day event include  former President of Union of African Shippers’ Council, Dr. Kofi Mbiah; Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State, Ladi Lawanson, Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye;
Also billed to address the participants are Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Ms. Hadiza Bala Usman; DG, NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside, Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Maikanti Kacalla Baru, among others.
