The Lagos State Government through its Lagos State Kick Against Drug Abuse Campaign, LASKADA, an initiative of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development took its campaign against drug and substance abuse to LASPOTECH to sensitise students on the need to shun illicit drugs. Speaking at the event which was organised by the Nigerian Union of Lagos State Student, LASPOTECH chapter, the speaker from LASKADA, Mrs Fibisola Taiwo urged the students to shun illicit use of drugs and substances. “Abusing of drugs and substances can be fun at first stage but the adverse effect put both the individual involved at risk and the society at large, hence, say ‘no’ to drug and substance abuse”, she said. She further said about 14.3 million people aged 15- 64 had used psycho-active drugs within the past one year of which cannabis accounted for the most used among adolescents, adding that one out of five users had suffered adverse effect from the use of these drugs. Taiwo therefore urged the students to focus on their studies and shun any form of delinquency which might disrupt their education or even cut short their lives if not properly managed. © 2019, maritimemag.
