CoverHeadlinesMaritime Security LADOL expresses sadness over fatal shooting incident By maritimemag April 11, 2019 ShareTweet 0 The management of Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics (LADOL) Free Zone has expressed its deepest sadness over a fatal shooting incident involving a staff of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) . It would be recalled that on Tuesday,an operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Innocent Oshemi, guarding the LADOL Free Zone shot and killed his colleague and fatally injured a Korean staff working at the fabrication and integration yard of Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) located in the free zone. The LADOL’s armed security guard berserk around the SHI-MCI yard, killing his colleague during an argument and shooting a Korean SHI-MCI employee operating a crane within the yard at the time. However, in a statement signed by Olakunle Kalejaye, the Public Relations Officer of LADOL, the management of the company expressed its agony over the incident and extended its condolences to the victims of the unfortunate incident. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the NSCDC officer, who tragically lost his life as well as the Samsung Heavy Industries Nigeria staff member (Samsung) who was injured. “The Samsung staff member is in stable condition and is now returning to South Korea. We are providing every support we can to those impacted and their families. “The incident on Tuesday 9 April was contained entirely within the fabrication and integration shipyard in LADOL, where Samsung staff are currently working on the final stages of the Egina FPSO development project. “We commend the NSCDC team in LADOL, particularly their commander on the scene who swiftly brought the situation under control. We note that this is an isolated incident which should not be interpreted to portray NSCDC in a poor light. ” We also commend and thank the LADOL security team who acted professionally and calmly to ensure the situation was resolved quickly. “LADOL continues to work closely with the NSCDC, Nigerian Exports Processing Zones Authority and the Nigerian Police Service as they undertake their investigation into this tragic incident and we will provide further updates when appropriate. “The safety and wellbeing of those who work at the LADOL is our ultimate priority. We thank our tenants and other visitors in the zone who obeyed the Free Zone regulations, stayed safe and who have subsequently sent their condolences and other messages of support”, the statement concluded. Meanwhile,the gunman has since been detained and taken into custody by Apapa police. The gunman, who was supplied to LADOL Free Zone by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, was tasked with the responsibility of defending the Samsung yard from any external attack. The Korean employee who was taken to hospital , underwent several hours of surgery, having suffered serious and life-changing injuries as a result of this incident.
