Customs & ExciseHeadlinesKudos & Knocks Kudos to customs for putting gun boats to use. By maritimemag September 14, 2019 ShareTweet 0 Kudos to the Nigeria Customs Service for finally having the will, after four years of indecision, to commission the sea going vessels meant for water patrol against smuggling. The service should however be reminded that the crafts like humans, need constant check and maintenance to avoid stories that touch the soul. No excuse should however be given for infiltration of smuggled items into the country now that both land and water are adequately secured. One hopes that the trained Customs officers too are capable to handle the vessel so that the fund committed to training them would not amount to a waste. The Comptroller General was quick to read riot acts to officers to maintain the vessels because failure would amount to holding them responsible. The maintenance of the vessels are subject to budgeting and disbursing money for the purpose because the officers would not use their salaries to do what customs management is expected to do © 2019, maritimemag.
