HeadlinesOil & Gas Kaduna in turmoil as NUPENG threatens to join NLC strike By maritimemag May 19, 2021 ShareTweet 0 Segun Oladipupo There seems to be no respite in sight for the residents of Kaduna State as the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened to embark on industrial action over attack on members of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) protesting in Kaduna state. Recall that the leadership of the NLC is presently on five days warning strike in Kaduna and the state government had described the strike action as illegal even as Gov. El- Rufai has threatened to sack health and education workers who fail to show up for work. In a release jointly signed by the National President, Comrade William Akporeha and the National Secretary, Comrade Afolabi Olawale, NUPENG put members on red alert as they could shut their services at a very short notice if the situation demands so. The release stated; “The National leadership of NUPENG is deeply saddened with the violent turn of NLC peaceful protests by the regime of Governor Nasir El-Rufai in Kaduna State,” Akporeha said in a statement. “The leadership of the union is therefore calling on the Federal Government to immediately call on Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to order before his arrogance and power drunk ego further push the situation into horrendous calamity as he has been doing in all issues relating to human lives and wellbeing. © 2021, maritimemag.
