HeadlinesPorts Management Hoodlums’ Attack: NASS Assures NPA of Budgetary Support By maritimemag November 6, 2020 ShareTweet 0 Abiola Seun The National Assembly has pledged its support to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority in its efforts to rebuild its headquaters torched by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest. Speaking during a visit by the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committees on Ports and Harbour , the legislators assured NPA of their cooperation in budgetary amendments to accommodate cost of repairs and replacements. The NPA Managing Director, Hadiza Bala, after conducting members of NASS round the premises, House Chairman on Ports and Habours, Hon Garba Datti Muhammad and Vice Chairman of Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Tolulope Odebiyi said the NASS would consider the requests in the interest of the economy. According to Mohammed “We are here to commiserate with the Nigerian Ports Authority and as lawmakers ,see the extent of damage done by persons who hijacked a peaceful protest to destroy government properties. “We have advised the NPA management to adjust its 2020 budget and include cost for the repairs which we shall consider” he said. Hadiza Bala Usman told reporters that actual cost of damage done to the NPA headquarters building is yet to be fully ascertained as insurance companies concerned with the facility are still evaluating actual cost from the damage and theft. She added that insurance firms are not expected to bear the full cost of the damage to the building and other properties of NPA.
