News Group flays non-inclusion in NIMASA’s ship registry review process By maritimemag May 16, 2018 ShareTweet 0 By Abiodun Oba | Nigerian Merchant Navy and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNWTSSA) has expressed dismay at non inclusion of its members in the committee set up by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to review the ship registration process in Nigeria. The National President of the association, Engr. Matthew Alalade while speaking with our correspondent on phone, however lauded the initiative, adding that it was a good move to review the ship registration process adding that, it was not possible to outrightly make it the best in the world. Alalade said, “It is a good thing because the process of registering ships in Nigeria is too cumbersome. “If this feat is achieved, it will help to attract more investors into the shipping sector of the Maritime industry in the country. “They cannot make it the best in the world, they should start with the normal they are doing before talking of the best in the world. Recall, that the committee organised stakeholders’ forum last week with mandate to make inputs into the registration office. The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside at the event vowed that the registration would be one of the best in the world. The committee has three months to submit its report even as Dakuku promised that every recommendation would be implemented. © 2018, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
