The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Ms. Zainab Ahmed made this known, saying that the nation’s land borders may be reopened soon. While stating that the borders that have been closed since August 2019, Ahmed said the presidential committee set up on the matter has completed its job and has recommended its reopening. She further noted the committee would soon submit its report to President Muhammadu Buhari, before a formal pronouncement would be made on the land border reopening. Additionally, Ahmed did not state when the report will be submitted and how soon it will take for the reopening of the land borders. Recall the federal government shut its land borders over a year ago in order to curtail illegal importation of drugs, small arms and agricultural products into Nigeria from neighbouring West African countries. © 2020, maritimemag.
