FAAN investigates airport officials over alleged cash demands

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has initiated move to investigate the alleged cash demand allegations made against some officials of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by returning passengers of evacuation flights.

FAAN disclosed this on Sunday via its Twitter account and charged all passengers to resist and report any such demand on the spot to airports’ authorities.

The FAAN noted that all Covid-19 protocols put in place at the airports are free for passengers and does not attract any charges whatsoever, citing that investigation is on-going by all agencies at the airport.

According to the statement, “the Authority will also like to use this medium to appeal to passengers to always ensure adherence to all safety and security measures at the airports.

“As the nation’s airports begin to reopen gradually for flight operations, we advise passengers to desist from giving money and to report any official from any agency that requests money under any guise”.

The Federal Government agency explained that there is no aspect of its services at the airports that are being paid for.

“Arriving passengers are expected to have gone through the Covid-19 test before boarding their flights from ports of departure, therefore they should not pay any money whatsoever to any airport official for the purpose,” it said.

The FAAN, however, admonished passengers never to offer any form of cash for Covid-19 pandemic services at the airports as the country gradually resumes flight operations
