DPR warns customers against use of cell phones at fuel outlets

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has warned customers against the use of cell phones at fuel retail outlets.

The oil and gas regulator disclosed this on Monday in Osun State, advising motorists to stop the habit of using mobile phones while refueling at retail outlets in order to prevent fire outbreak.

The Operation Controller, DPR, Mr Olusegun Daboh, told pressmen in Osogbo that such act was dangerous because petrol is highly inflammable’’.

He urged them to always turn off their car engines before refueling and also warned the marketers operating filling stations with expired licence, selling above the regulated pump price and under-dispensing to desists from doing so or get penalised.

Daboh further disclosed that any unwholesome practice by petroleum marketers should be reported to the DPR office for appropriate action.

He maintained that the task force of the department would continue to carry out its routine surveillance in all the filling stations in the state towards ensuring that they comply with all the safety regulations.

Daboh also appealed to the residents to always check their gas cylinder regularly for leakages in order to prevent fire outbreak.

He believed that it was necessary to look out for the Nigeria Industrial Standard number whenever anyone is buying a cylinder.
