Dozens missing after ferry capsizes off Cameroon

A ferry with nearly 200 passengers aboard capsized in heavy seas off the Bakassi peninsula, Cameroon, on the night between August 25 and 26.

According to the Cameroon Army, armed forces personnel have recovered three deceased passengers. A total of 107 passengers are said to have survived the incident.

A search and rescue operation for a yet-to-be-determined number of passengers is still underway.

The Norway-built ferry Austrheim was en route from Calabar, Nigeria, to Cameroon at the time of the accident.

Authorities are yet to announce an investigation into the cause of the vessel’s capsizing.
