The Police on Wednesday arrested a Customs officer for shooting a motorist at Iya-Afin checking point, Badagry. The yet-to-be-identified Customs officer allegedly shot the victim on his right arm refusing to stop at a checkpoint. According to the source, the motorist, who was coming from Seme Border, refused to stop at the check point and the officer opened fire which hit his right arm. According to an eyewitness, “Friends and relations of the victim who were around, mobilised the people to attack the officer and it almost degenerated into chaos.” However, police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Badagry, Samson Akinromen, and arrested the trigger-happy Customs officer. Akinromen, a Superintendent of Police ordered that the Customs officer be detained at the Badagry Police Station, while the victim to taken to hospital for treatment. © 2018, maritimemag.
