In a press statement made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer, Husaini Abdullahi, he said the drug which worth N5million was intercepted alongside Premium Motor Spirits (PMS). Abdulahi who quoted the acting Customs Area Controller of the command, Compt. Chedi Dalha disclosed that the 9,225 kegs of petroleum products were intercepted from smugglers. According to him, the command also seized 105 bales of textiles materials smuggled into the country from Benin Republic. The statement reads, “in a bid to suppress the activities of daredevil smugglers to the barest minimum, the intensified activities of the anti-smuggling unit of Seme Area Command under the leadership of Ag. Customs Area Controller, Chedi Dalha Wada has in the last three weeks recorded tremendous achievements which include the arrest of 782 packets and 630 cards of tramadol all of 50grms, equivalent to 409, 000grms of tramadol, and also 9, 400ml of Amphetamine syrup with DPV of N 4.7million intercepted along elejah – mowo axis of the Command.” “In the same vein, a total DPV of N 19.4million was realized during the period under review from the seizure of 275 bags of rice; 9, 225 litres of Premium Motor Spirit; 11 Jerry cans of Vegetable Oil and 132 cartons of frozen poultry products. Others are 105 pieces of textile materials; 12 Sacks of used Clothing; one sack of used shoes; three sacks of used ladies handbags; pieces of cream, 10 sacks of Egusi one sack of stockfish and 30 cartons of choko drink. Abdulahi however said that the Ag. Customs Area Controller, reiterated that the aforementioned seizures were strong message to smugglers and their accomplices even as he promised to sustain the current tempo of suppression of smuggling for social and economic well been of Nigeria. © 2020, maritimemag.
