The Deputy Comptroller, Yahaya Biri Usman over the weekend, stated that the cartons of frozen poultry products were seized in the first week of November, 2019. He disclosed further that the seizure which has a Duty Paid Value of N13.4million has been destroyed. He also disclosed that smugglers were getting sophisticated while Customs has devised means to nip their sophistication in the bud. According to him, “It was very obvious that with the border closure, creeks would be their next options, but the officers are keeping vigil as the unit will continue the onslaught until the smugglers retreat.” Yahaya reiterated that the community relationship between the officers and villages along the coast has been of benefit to its success and it has come to stay. “The availability of operations tools and personnel motivation instils prompt response in the men whenever any alert was raised.” He also warned that the importation of frozen poultry products remained prohibited and that destruction of the products were in compliance with the Federal Government policy on imported poultry products. © 2019, maritimemag.
