News Customs, ANLCA lament shortage of cargo at Eastern Ports By maritimemag May 13, 2018 ShareTweet 0 By Babalola Yusuf | The Nigeria Customs Service and the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents(ANLCA) have lamented low cargo operation at seaports and airport in Rivers State and other eastern ports. The Customs Area Comptroller of Port Harcourt Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Comptroller Jada Umar reflected on the low state of cargo at the airport while hosting the President of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Tony Iju Nwabunike who visited him as part of his tour of eastern ports. Umar described the situation as regrettable and congratulated Nwabunike on his election as the president and promised to work with ANLCA. While speaking, ANLCA President assured Deputy Comptroller Umar of ANLCA’s continuing collaboration to ensure Customs collects maximum revenue, as long as the command continues to accord due recognition to the efforts of ANLCA members. On the low cargo at the airport and seaport, members of ANLCA in an interactive session with their President lamented the situation, saying the Port Harcourt seaport has the misfortune of being a good port without cargo because of bad politics of some concessionaires operating in the Eastern part of the country. They pleaded with ANLCA president to wade into the matter. Nwabunike promised to approach the relevant government agencies and private stakeholders to plead with them to redirect cargo to the airport and all the seaports. © 2018, maritimemag.
