#Covid-19: Shipping Company Slams N.5m Fresh Surcharge On Nigerian Importers

French shipping company, CMA/CGM has slammed fresh surcharge on cargoes from Asia, Indian Subcontinent & Middle East Gulf to Lagos seaports.

The surcharge titled Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) according to the shipping company, will be effective from 1st June, 2020.

According to a statement made available to newsmen, the company said it slammed $1400 (N504,000 at prevailing rate of N360/$) on every unit of cargoes destined for Apapa and Tin-Can island ports in Lagos.

The statement further stated that the surcharge was introduced to serve its client better.

“In a continued effort to provide its customers with reliable and efficient services, CMA CGM informs its customers of the following Peak Season Surcharge applicable until further notice:

“Effective June 1, 2020 (date of loading), from Asia including China, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, South-East Asia & Bangladesh, India Subcontinent & Middle East Gulf to Lagos ports: Apapa and Tin Can, Nigeria

According to the statement, the affected cargoes are, “Dry, Reefer, OOG, Breakbulk which amount to $1,400 per unit.”
