The National President of The group, Engr. Bob Joseph said this in a release sent to our correspondent. In the statement, Engr. Joseph warned the members against use of fake masks and hand gloves saying it is not recommended by the World Health organization. He stated further that seafarers should observe all the regulations laid down by the federal government against further spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic. The statement read, “I want to use this medium to advise our Seafarers (Officers) & other citizens of our great Nation, Nigeria to abstain from using the face mask and hand gloves as they are originally made for our medical practitioners and also putting into consideration scarcity of the items as well as the paucity of cash resulting from the stay at home order of the Federal Government. “Avoid spending on things that are not worth it. “At this trying time where the entire world’s medical scientists & professionals are doing research day and night to uncover a particular cure for this deadly disease called covid 19 that has held the world powers and Economy to standstill, it is very important at this stage that all our Officers & men adhere strictly to the preventive measures as advised by World Health Organization (WHO) and our medical professionals to ensure that we always wash our hands at least every 30 seconds. “It’s also recommended that we make use of the hand sanitizer (that contains at least 65% alcohol) whenever we come in contact with any object or person(s) to avoid being infected by the deadly Covid 19 & spreading it. “It’s advisable that we should be washing our hands repeatedly and also ensure our family practice proper hygiene to avoid spreading of the virus. “Once again, I urge you Don’t buy hand gloves & face mask. Don’t give any of the two as gift to friends and relatives. Don’t encourage or advise people to use same. Avoid shaking hands, practice social distancing, report any Covid-19 symptoms or suspected case by calling the NCDC line “Please, stay at home at all time as instructed by the Government of Nigeria and if you must go out, cooperate with the covid-19 task team & ensure you always make use of your hand sanitizer. For health is wealth & please stay alive to tell the story. Together we can beat this deadly virus and return back to our normal life. A word is enough for the wise,” it concluded.
