Community Policing: Problem Solving & Transformational

The Nigerian government newly introduced Community Policing security architecture has been described as problem solving and transformational.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Training & Development, Mr Olufemi Folawiyo, who represented the Inspector General of Police, gave the assertion at the on going inauguration of Community Policing Advisory/State Committees South-West Geopolitical zone,  in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Thursday.

Folawiyo who was visibly elated informed,  “Community policing enhances the partnership between us all as Government, the people and the Police.

“It is problem solving and it is transformational.   It allows innovation. Every state can adapt it to its needs and purposes.

“When volunteers come out to serve as special constables the community has choice to pick the best.

“The community will easily work for its choice because the cop is just a man. The police is the people who work for him, and work with him to solve problems , make arrests and keep the peace to sustain state security.”

In his speech, the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, commended the Inspector general of Police for the community policing Initiative.

Abiodun pledged to embrace the scheme for according to him is of multidimensional advantages adding that, it is going to provide more jobs of Special Constables for the people, it is efficient, effective and cheap aside being a lasting solution to the incessant security problems in the state.

Many dignitaries including members of the Advisory and State Community Policing committees, security agencies and many others witnessed the inauguration ceremony.

Recall that similar Community Policing Advisory/State Committees had been inaugurated in Osun, Ekiti and Lagos States in the South-West Geopolitical zone of the country.
