The banks were seen attending to freight forwarders and customs brokers who had businesses to transact at the ports situated in Apapa and TinCan Island. As usual, transactions were based on customs duty and other shipping charges towards ensuring clearing of backlog of cargoes caught up due to the declaration of lockdown of the state over Covid-19 pandemic. The commercial banks however, did not transact businesses that had nothing to do with customs duty and other shipping charges. The agents were happy with the banks who accepted the federal government directive to attend to them. Mr. Chuks Eboiwe a forwarder, said the lockdown was tough until the federal government directive which brought relief to him and a host of others on port services. It will be recalled that the National President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA), Hon. Iju Tony Nwabunike made an appeal to the federal government to intervene as a matter of urgency and it was granted. Editing by ‘Biodun Soyele © 2020, maritimemag. All rights reserved.
