In a letter of commendation read and presented to the command by ACG Dahiru Aminu, the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A of the service, the CGC declared that the Customs top hierarchy was happy with the style of leadership of Shoboiki and the positive changes she has brought to the command. The Zonal Coordinator was speaking to the men and officers of the gateway command during his visit to the command Friday. While corroborating the gesture of the Customs hierarchy towards Shoboiki, the Zonal Coordinator stated that despite the complaints against the CAC, the management of the service was satisfied with her performance. Dahiru disclosed that his office was inundated with petitions against the Customs egghead but said the Customs Authority was not moved as Shoboiki performance was satisfactory. He said that Controller Shoboiki means different things to different people. “While some see her as tough, some see her as strict but to some of us, she is a leader and disciplinarian who doesn’t brood nonsense” ACG Dahiru noted. He however urged the officers of the command to support the CAC in her quest to infuse order and discipline into customs operations in the command. Meanwhile, the Zonal Coordinator has warned officers of the command, especially the releasing officers and examinations officers against compromise in their operations. “There is tendency for compromise between releasing and examinations officers. Anyone caught would be punished. You should always agree not to compromise but to do the right thing and add value to the system” Dahiru declared. He enjoined the officers not to take side with Customs Brokers against the command on any controversial issue. He also advised them to be well grounded in all facets of customs operations which he noted is necessary to aid their promotions. Earlier, Controller Shoboiki, while welcoming the Zonal Coordinator, disclosed that the command under her watch has made some spectacular seizures which she said was as a result of the determination of the command not to allow any contraband through the area. She also disclosed that the teething problems associated with the new customs automation system, which was recently introduced in the command, has affected the revenue performance of the area command. Shoboiki however said they are gradually gaining traction as the revenue profile is now picking up. According to her, the command has raked in over N4billion as at Friday. She also expressed her happiness at the CGC recognition and recommendations, saying it could not have been possible without the support of the officers. The visit of ACG coincided with the birthday of Controller Shoboiki which was marked by the officers and men of the command who showered her with effusive words of commendation. © 2018, maritimemag.
