Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside who confirmed the signing of the bill into law said it will boost job creation in the maritime industry Our correspondent confirmed that Buhari signed the Bill on 24th June, 2019 Apart from the Piracy Bill, the Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) was also signed into law. Both Bills had earlier been passed by the National Assembly and awaiting Presidential assent. Both bills were championed by the Executive Director ,Finance and Administration of (NIMASA) Dr Bashir Jamoh, who is also the National President of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, CIoTA. The Piracy Bill according to NIMASA is said to be important in the fight against piracy and other crimes on Nigerian waterways. The agency assured that the law would check piracy and open up more opportunities in the maritime sector. In an earlier press statement issued by Mr Nnamdi Eronini, National Secretary of CIoTA, he said the CIoTA Act confers responsibility for advancing the study, training and practice of Transport management and administration, and for related matters on the institute. “Thus CIoTA becomes the prime & pioneer Chartered body to regulate all aspects of Transport, all ancillary (related) areas of Transport.
