Buhari appoints Daukoru NLNG Board Chairman

The Nigeria’s  President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Edmund Daukoru as the Chairman of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG).

This was announced on Monday during the reconstitution of the representatives of Nigeria on the Board of Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) where Daukoru, a former Secretary General, Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2006, emerged the Chairman.
The appointment was contained in a memo signed  by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Timipre Sylva, who disclosed that President Buhari has also endorsed the reconstituted Board of Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT).
“The list of new representatives of the Nigeria Government on the LNG Board are Edmund Daukoru as the Chairman while Henry lkem-Obih, Rabiu Sulaiman, Bitrus Nabasu and the head of NNPC, Mele Kyari, are members.
For the Bonny Gas Transport Limited, Edmund Daukoru is the president. The members are Doyin Akinyanju, Abdul Abba, Bitrus Nabasu, and Mele Kyari,” he said.
Sylvia further stated  that the current board members have been on the respective boards since 2005 hence the necessity to inject fresh ideas into the governance of the companies.
He also lauded the Chairman and other outgoing board members of NLNG and BGT for steering the organisations to record successes, especially the Train 7 FID.
“To the incoming members of the Board, I congratulate you on this appointment and your selection is based on your experience, integrity and expertise. I, therefore, urge you to bring all these to bear in the discharge of your responsibilities in line with the progressive agenda of Mr President.”
Recall  that the new NLNG Chairman became the Amayanabo, a  traditional ruler of Nembe Kingdom in 2008 and was born on October 13, 1943  and holds a Phd in Geology from Imperial College London.
