Barely 24 Hours, 92,000 Job Applicants Apply for Customs Job

Barely 24 hours had the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) opened its portal for recruitment exercise, there are indication that no fewer than 92,000 candidates may have successfully submitted their application for job placement.

Even though the deadline for submission of application is Monday, 7th May 2019, the number of application may likely hit one million candidates jostling for less than 4000 jobs.

The NCS opened its portal at 12:00 am on Wednesday for recruitment of 3,200 officers and men to the service.

According to a statement, candidates submitting hard copies of applications forms at any customs Headquarters, Abuja or any other Customs Formation will not be considered.

The statement signed by the Secretary, Nigerian Customs Board, noted that all applications are to be made online.

Recall, that the Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Department, Umar Sanusi, at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja said 800 would be recruited to fill vacancies in the Support Staff for Superintendent Cadre Category.

Sanusi said 2,400 would fill those of Customs Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadre in the General Duty Categories.

He also said that the service’s portal for the recruitment would be opened for 24 hours and would close after three weeks.

Insider sources stated that Nigerians in about 41 countries worldwide had so far applied for various cadres.

One of the officers who preferred anonymity at customs’ headquarters, Abuja said applications of 92,000 candidates were so far submitted as at 4pm on Wednesday.

”All applications should be made online, suitably qualified candidates should log on to the Nigerian Customs Service Recruitment Portal, www.vacancy.customs.gov.ng,

Also in the statement, it said submission of applications “with a hard copy would be considered invalid”.

The positions to be occupied by prospective entrants include Assistant Inspector (Support Staff) – CONSOL 06, Assistant Inspector (General Duty) – CONSOL 06, Customs Assistant (Support Staff) Grade 11 – CONSOL 04, and, Assistant Superintendent of Customs II (Support Staff).

The service is a parastatal under the Ministry of Finance with the sole responsibility of collecting revenue, protection of the border, prevention of smuggling and trade facilitation.
