Bandits release two abducted Customs Officers

Reprieve has finally come to two customs officers, an Inspector and a Customs Assistant, who were abducted by armed bandits, as they have now regained freedom.

They were kidnapped on last week Tuesday while on official duty along Jibya Basari Road in Katsina State.

Confirming the release, Joseph Attah, National Public Relations Officer of the Customs, said they were handed over to customs authorities by operatives of the Nigerian Army yesterday.

Attah, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs, added that there has been sustained efforts by a combined team of security agents trailing the abductors since the incident occurred.

He added that the sustained heat from the security agents led by the Army in reconnaissance mode, made the abductors uncomfortable as they struggled to flee with their victims.

According to him” The abductors never communicated with us and no ransom was paid to secure the release of the kidnapped officers.

“The Comptroller-General of Customs appreciates the robust inter-agency collaboration between our service and sister agencies in various operations and particularly in the ongoing Border Drill, Exercise Swift Response.

“This recent kidnap incident or previous operational hazards will not deter us from carrying out our assigned duties to Nation”, Attah said.
