ATTACKS ON SHIPS: ENL says situation under control.

The management of ENL Consortium Nigeria Limited operators of terminal C and D at the Apapa port has commends the efforts of joint security operatives Manning the waterfront.

The commendation is coming as a result of drastic reduction in attacks on vessels on waterfronts.

Barrister Boye Uzamot, the company’s lawyer told journalists in his office on Wednesday that the presence of security agents including the Nigerian Navy and Marine police has simmered the attacks.

Recall that the terminal operator had raised alarm in April over the incessant attacks especially at the terminal which prompted the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to promise fishing out the perpetrators of the crimes.

Barrister Uzamot noted that ENL had written officially to NPA over the anomaly which prompted the timely intervention.

According to him, NPA, NIMASA, Navy and Marine Police were notified about the attacks, pointing out that there has been a drastic drop to that effect.

Uzamot who also doubles as the Secretary, Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), noted that the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Navy and the Marine Police rose to the occasion to stop the menace perpetrated by miscreants from neighbouring communities.

“The situation is calm, the situation is better because the agencies are patrolling the waters effectively and we are satisfied with the current situation.

However, Uzamot hoped that the frequent patrol of the waterfront would be sustained by the authorities adding that the agencies swung into action at the peak of the attacks on ships.
