News APMT seeks 5 years extension for Lilypond Terminal By maritimemag April 13, 2018 ShareTweet 0 The AP Moller Terminal, Apapa, owners of Lilypond Terminal , Ijora has approached the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA ) to grant them 5 year-extension to the concession agreement on the Lilypond off dock terminal. The concession agreement ,signed in 2006, has a 10-year duration. Making this disclosure recently, the Managing Director ,Nigerian Ports Authority [NPA] Hadiza Bala Usman, hinted of the tacit approval of the extention request. The NPA boss, gave the hint while playing host to the management of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission [ICRC] led by its Acting Director General Engineer Chidi Izuwah which paid her a working visit in her office. Hadiza further revealed, that, plans are almost concluded for the business model meant for the Lilypond Terminal, as part of the agency resolve for improved service delivery in the terminals. She charged all concerned with the working documents for the review of the terminal’s agreement to speed up the process that would allow for the swift consideration and possible approval for the 5 year-renewal being sought by Lilypond. Hadiza reiterated the determination of the Authority to support the completion of all deep sea ports projects across the country,in view of their potential to the future of maritime activities of the nation. According to her, early completion of the project would not only facilitate operational efficiency in the nation’s Maritime system but would also further strengthen the Federal Government’s policy of the Ease of Doing Business. She restated the need to fast track the nation’s navigational Channels,in order to accommodate bigger vessels which would generate more revenue for the country and improve trade facilitation in the sub region. Responding, the ICRC Director General Engineer Chidi Izuwah,applauded the numerous positive changes the Maritime sub sector has witnessed since the assumption of office of the Managing Director. He commended progress made in the areas of improved synergy with relevant Stakeholders, providing a level playing ground for all, efficient service delivery for Port users, improved Port operations among others. The Director General lauded the reforms in the Port Industry which dated back to 2006. He stated that, the ICRC Management was willing to support the drive towards ensuring that, the growth witnessed this far was guarded to the letter. Engineer Izuwah informed his host that ICRC which acts as the ‘’eyes and ears’’ of the Federal Government, was in Lagos to have a first -hand assessment of works at Lilypond Terminal and Joseph Dam among other MDA Projects being executed by the Federal Government. © 2018, maritimemag.
