Apapa Customs boss rewarded with promotion for rejecting N153.3m bribe

Few months after he rejected a whooping sum of $420,000 from a drug cartel which attempted to take delivery of 41 containers of tramadol,  the Apapa Customs Area Controller, Bashir Abubakar has been promoted to Assistant Comptroller General(ACG).

Consequently, he has been redeployed to the Abuja Headquarters of the service as ACG Headquarters

Confirming this to Nigeriamaritime360.com on Friday, the National Public Relations Officer of Customs, Deputy Controller Joseph Attah said Bashir is now Acting ACG Headquarters.

Also speaking with our correspondent, the Apapa Command Public Relations Officer, Nkiru Nwala said that Compt Bashir would be replaced next week by Compt Aba Kura who hitherto held sway as Controller of Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Unit.

She said the transition ceremony between both officers would hold next week.

Compt Bashir was recently conferred with the maritime media integrity award by Maritime Media Limited.

The event brought together officers and men of the Zone A command of the customs led by Assistant comptroller General and zonal coordinator Mrs. Kacee Ekekezie.

Mrs. Ekekezie who was on hand to present the plaque of honour to comptroller Bashir Abubakar expressed appreciation to maritime media limited for the recognition of the award recipient. She commended Comptroller Abubakar for his exemplary character which she described as worthy of emulation.

Managing director/ CEO of maritime media limited, organisers of the event Elder Asu  Beks in his speech, commended  comptroller Bashir Abubakar for his integrity and uncommon patriotism to his fatherland.

He congratulated the Award recipient for his outstanding performance.

“As a team player and one who is stickler for due process the rejection of 420,000 USD last year only goes to prove his undying passion for an uncommon patriotism for his fatherland”.
